We were very pleased with how the appointment went. They took quite a few x-rays of Hannah's legs, foot, and hips. That was probably the worst part for Hannah....she is extremely frightened of laying on "the table" to get x-rays taken :)
Her right leg is already showing signs of valgus (her lower leg growing out to the side in an angle). If her leg continues to grow in this way, she will need additional surgery to straighten that leg as valgus can cause problems with wearing a prosthesis. We knew from the beginning of her diagnosis that this could occur, so it wasn't new news to us. It sounds as if the surgery will not be horribly invasive.
Her left leg looks really good. We were surprised to see in the x-ray that her fibula is much longer than we originally thought. It is still not a complete fibula, but we were pleasantly surprised by its length.
Hannah has outgrown her current prosthesis. They made a cast of her leg and, over the next couple of weeks, they will be making her a new prosthetic leg!! We go back once a week for the next couple of weeks to have additional measurements and evaluations done. If all goes well, her new leg will be ready in about 3 weeks! During this time, they will also be evaluating Hannah to see if she needs additional physical therapy to help with her gross motor skills.
On another note, a sweet girl (who also wears a prosthetic leg) heard about Hannah
being sad concerning her legs and she sent Hannah the following letter. Isn't this extremely sweet and kind??!!?? It brought tears to my eyes!

What a sweet letter to give to Hannah. I know she (and you) are both going to treasure it for a long time. Glad to see your family is doing well.
Love and prayers,
Stevie
That letter will be in the "keep forever" box, I'm sure! Hannah is so brave - that girl is going to be fearless in her teens! Momma, watch out! :)
On a completely unrelated note... Brian will have some training in Jacksonville in mid-July. We were thinking of driving a little extra and coming to visit if you guys will be around!
Hi Tara,
I am interested to hear more about Hannah's valgus. Eli's right leg is definitely valgus too and I am fearful that he'll need some sort of surgery to correct that. We see a physical rehabilitation doctor at the end of the month, so I guess we'll learn more then.
Take care,
Kristina
